About Generational Systems

Who We Are and How We Started

Generational Systems also known as Gene-Sys develops metal additive manufacturing technology designed to be practical accessible and adaptable. The company focuses on reducing cost complexity and operational barriers that often limit wider adoption of metal 3D printing.

Gene-Sys began through graduate level research at Auburn University led by founder Michael Knotts. This early work explored alternative approaches to metal additive manufacturing by applying principles commonly used in plastic extrusion. Through experimentation and system development the research demonstrated that it was possible to improve safety increase build speed and simplify operation while still producing functional metal components.

This research became the foundation for what would later evolve into the GS-1 metal 3D printing platform.

Our Approach to Metal Additive Manufacturing

Metal additive manufacturing continues to advance but many existing systems remain costly complex and difficult to integrate into everyday workflows. Generational Systems approaches this challenge by prioritizing practicality and accessibility.

Gene-Sys seeks to increase the affordability, accessibility, and ease-of-use for metal additive manufacturing. Our team hopes to foster innovation and open new doors by helping to increase every-day access and use of metal 3D printing.

The goal is not to replace traditional manufacturing methods but to provide a flexible tool that allows teams to evaluate and apply metal additive manufacturing where it adds real value.
